Tour de France - Discover Burgundy
Discover the romance of Burgundy
With its dreamy Chardonnays and heart-racing Pinot Noirs, the gently rolling hills of Burgundy have beguiled many a wine-lover. The tradition and the passion for the vine found in villages such as Puligny Montrachet, Meursault, Nuit St George and Gevry Chambertin means that this region more than any other inspires a reverence and fascination. The wines here are deceptively simple: Chardonnay for white, Pinot Noir for red. But underneath lies a fascinating range of styles from the austere elegance of Chablis to the supple succulence of Pouilly Fuisse. Many different 'expressions' of the same grape variety - the French say it is evidence of the influence of 'terrior'; the combination of soil, vine and weather producing something unique.
Our tasting will focus on exploring the glorious differences contained within the region: taste a Chablis, alongside a Cote D'or Chardonnay and one from the up and coming Cote Chalonnaise and judge for yourself. We will look over the range of Pinot Noir on offer- what do you get if you spend a bit more money? Finally we will touch upon Beaujolais, the glorious Gamay, with its sappy red fruit flavours and fresh mouthfeel. An evening of subtle, elegant and stylish wines. As always, Justin will be on hand to answer any questions and help guide you through the twists and turns of French labelling law, ready with advice about how to pick your own wines and where to find the best value for money.
