Tour de France - Loire and Alsace
Discover delicate and fragrant whites
Come and enjoy the delights of Sancerre, Muscadet, Vouvray, Pinot Gris and Riesling amongst others. An evening devoted to some of France's finest white wines starting with a leisurely tour along the beautiful Loire valley to taste the delicious Chenin Blanc prouduced around Anjou, including a Vouvray with racy flavours of orange zest and lime. Further down the river we discover the picturesque villages of Sancerre and Pouilly Fume, home to the original expressions of Sauvignon Blanc - lively with lemon, gooseberry and flinty notes. Pure, dry and unoaked; these are some of the freshest whites which France has to offer, so if you are a fan of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc or South African Chenin why not come along and taste fantastic examples of these grapes from their original home.
Meanwhile over in Alsace we will turn our noses towards some full bodied, fruity, yet dry, whites. Those who have attended other Wine School events, such as the Saturday Wine School, will attest to the quality and popularity of Pinot Gris from Alsace which is often many people's surprise favourite wine if the day. Ripe with peach, red apple and apricot flavours; Pinot Gris deserves greater popularity than it currently has and you will get a chance to enjoy it tonight. The other aromatic, food-friendly whites which mark Alsace out as home to some of the most distinctive wines in France, including luscious rose-petal flecked Gewurtztraminer, will also be savoured.
An evening not to be missed by any white wine lovers!
