Please find the answers to some common questions we get asked below. If you can't find the information you need here then please contact us.
I don't know very much about wine, can I still come to a tasting?
Yes! Our tastings are relaxed and friendly and are all about having fun by experiencing all the different flavours you get in different wines. All our courses are designed for all levels of knowledge with no previous experience required! So come along, there's a whole world of exciting wines to discover!
Do I need to bring a ticket/booking confirmation with me on the night?
No, our events are paperless so we'll just ask for your name at the door.
How many people are there in a class?
It varies a bit depending on the tasting, but there are usually between 10 and 18.
Where are the events held?
Please see 'Our Venues' page for the full details.
Is there a dress code?
No, our tastings are very relaxed and informal so just wear whatever you're comfortable in.
Can I buy the wines I've tasted on the night?
One of the key things about the Lothian Wine School is that we are independent of any merchant or retailer and are not trying to sell you wine. Therefore you can't buy wines from us on the night, but you will be given a tasting sheet that tells you where you can seek out any bottles you enjoyed at the tasting.
I'm not sure this is for me, will it be snobby?
No! We are an anti-wine snob zone! The focus at our tastings is about having a great time and meeting some nice people with a shared interest in wine. We'll tell you about the wines and where they come from, and we hope you'll learn a bit, but there's no pretentiousness and absolutely no snobbery! Check out our tripadvisor reviews to see what we're all about.
Do you sell gift vouchers?
Yes, all our events are available to buy as a gift voucher. Have a look at our gift voucher page for full details.
I've got a gift voucher, how do I book?
The easiest way is to book through the website. Just find a tasting that takes your fancy, click 'Book Now' and then, 'Pay using cheque or gift voucher.' Enter your gift voucher reference number in to the appropriate box and send us your order. We'll send you an email to confirm your booking. If you're not sure what your voucher is valid for or if you need any help then please give us a call or an email. Details can be found on our contact us page.
I've had a gift voucher for ages, can I still use it?
Yes! Our gift vouchers have no expiry date.
The value of my gift voucher is more/less than the value of the course I want to attend.
No problem, if your voucher is for more than the value of the course then we'll just keep the unused balance for you as credit that can be redeemed against a future tasting, and if there's a shortfall then you can just send us a cheque for the difference, or if time is short give us cash on the night.
I've ordered a gift voucher. How long will it take to arrive?
Your gift voucher will be dispatched by first class post within 48 hours of ordering, and usually on the same day. For last minute gifts, vouchers can be emailed if required; just send us an email with your request.
What do I do if I need to cancel?
Please see our 'Terms and Conditions' page for all the details of our cancellation policy.
Do you do tastings in people's houses?
Yes! We've done all sorts of things ranging from up-market hen and stag do's to private parties and high end corporate events. Have a look at our private/corporate tastings page or contact us - we can usually put something together to fit most occasions and budgets.
